PoesPoes Bengals

There are lots of changes happening at PoesPoes cattery in the early part of 2012. With new additions to the breeding program and the next generation of PoesPoes home bred kittens continuing our breeding lines. We continually strive to improve the quality of Bengals we breed and offer to new homes and do not continue to re do the same matings. We breed for quality rather than quantity and 2012 will see the well earned retirement of some of our cats and their replacements move to take their place in the program, with some exciting new additions to help develop and progress our breeding lines. We will be up dating our website regularly throughout the year as these changes occur.

Welcome to the PoesPoes website

We breed mainly brown and snow rosetted Bengals, and also occasionally produce silver and marbled kittens. We Register our cats and kittens with The International Cat Association (T.I.C.A). All of our cats have a minimum of a yearly health check additional to the vet checks that occur at vetted shows. We are hoping to take several of our home bred kittens to shows in 2012 and have had reasonable show success with some of our cats previously. Our cats are treated against worms and fleas regularly throughout the year and all of our kittens are treated before heading off to new homes. We have previouslt exported kittens overseas and are willing to discuss this on an individual basis. Our cats have an extensive enclosed garden area where they can get fresh air and excerise. Our studs have spacious out door housing with heated and lit indoor areas. We spend as much time with our boys as possible. Our cats are fed a varied diet of Royal Canin dry kibble and raw meat diet. we feed raw chicken, minced and on the bone, cooked white fish, Rabbit portions and minced and also add natural live yogurt totheir diet twice weekly. This ensures our cats recieve a natural well balanced diet. We often suppliment our pregnant queens and nursing mothers with additional things such as lacol or KMR cat milk to maintain their condition. Our queens have a maximum ofr 2 litters a year and only take part in our breeding program when mature enough and cleared by a vet to be in optimum health. Our cats and kittens are extensivly socialised with outher animals and children of all ages to ensure well rounded confident kittens are offered to new homes.

Our kittens are born indoors (usually in one of our bedrooms unless the mother to be has other ideas!). They Remain there until they are old enough to come down stairs to meet the rest of the family and enjoy exploring the rooms down stairs. To ensure our kittens are not exposed to any harmful bugs we ask people viewing the babies not to visit other catteries before coming to PoesPoes. We are now not allowing viewings on kittens under 8 weeks of age although we are happy to send you lots of pictures from birth till they are old enough to be viewed. The welfare of our cats and kittens is our main priority in what we do and therefore have this in place. After 8 weeks of age we welcome visitors to cuddle and play with the babies to help socialise them to new smells and people. We offer a minimal number of kittens to approved breeding programs and most of our kittens are placed into loving pet homes. We welcome people to contact us if they are thinking about adding a PoesPoes kitten to your breeding program. Many of our kittens are spoken for very quicjkly if not prior to birth so if you are looking for a paticular kitten its best to keep an eye on the kittens page for up dates and contact us as early as possible. We belive only the best Bengals are suitable for breeding and therefore only offer the highest quality kittens to breeding homes. We have many internationally reccoginsed pedigrees many with well known titled sucessful show cats in them.

We have several imported cats and many from imported parents. We keep our gene pool as diverse as possible and breed from proven healthy lines. We have made many friends over the years we have been showing and breeding cats. Our kittens are ready to go from 12 weeks of age, this is the minimum a kitten should leave the breeder, however sometimes we feel that some kittens benifit from an extra week or two with their mother and siblings. It is our opinion its some times better to wait a little longer for your kitten to ensure he or she is 100% ready to join their new families than to move a kitten at the earliest possible age. Bengals are friendly, loving, outgoing and cleaver cats that make fantastic additions to the right families. They love to interact with their new families and are often very responsive to training, be that walking on a lead or playing games such as fetch.

Foundation Bengals F1 to F3 can make exciting family additions to the right homes and are an ideal way to maintain the wild look of the leopard cat in breeding programs. We are lucky to be working with several different foundation lines and bring together the genetics of several old and new Asian leopard cats in our pedigrees. Over the years there has often been bad press regarding foundation Bengals however this is usually a case of misunderstanding and a well raised foundation Bengal can be a joy to live with. We sometimes offer foundation Bengals to approved breeding programs However we do not keep any leopard cats of first generation cats at our home. We are lucky enough to have several friends who look after these for us for the time being as we have other life comitments along side looking after our later generation Bengals. At home we have bengals from F2 through to SBT however if you are looking for a first generation Bengal please contact us. Over the years it has become apparent that people still purchase Bengal kittens at pet price (pet quality) and then later want to breed with these cats. Only the best Bengals should be bred from and are thus priced higher. We therefore withold all registration doccuments until we recieve proof from your vet that your kitten has been spayed or castrated at 6 months of age. All our kittens leave with $ weeks free insurance and we strongly reccomend you continue this of similar cover throughout your cats life. Our kittens leave with vouchers for food that they are used to. Any changes in diet in new homes should be done gradually.

We love hearing from our kittens new owners and how they are getting on. We provide on going support for all our kittens. We love seeing our kittens going to homes that already have a cat or seeing them rehomed in pairs. Our queens retire usually before the age of 4 years old. They are then spayed and found loving homes where they can be spoiled rotten! It is always sad to see these cats head off to new homes however we feel it is kinder for the girls to retire and recive lots of dedicated attention than to remain in a multi cat house hold where a lot of time has to be dedicated to new babies and up coming mothers. our retired cats are young healthy and great examples of the breed. they leave us vaccinated, spayed or castrated and with a bag of food to get them started. If you are interested in an older or retired Bengal please contact us to find out which of our cats are due to retire. We sometimes also have rescued Bengals seeking homes.

We feel that 2012 will be an exciting year for us and the cats here at PoesPoes. We have some exciting breeding combinations planed and will hopefully see the arrival of some fatastic snow Bengals from our snow breeding program we put together last year. We are also expecting to see the arrival of some fantastic brown rosetted babies. Some of our cats have already gotten into the christmas spirit and decided spring has come early and have started mating. Our next litters will be born in Fenruary 2012 and we will be expecting both brown and snow kittens from these combinations. We are happy with the progress of our breeding in 2011 and hope we make the same progress in 2012. We are hoping to progress to the third generation of our own Bengal line and also expect to import 2 new additions to the gang. This coming year we are hoping to hold back some more of our own home bred additions to progress our breeding program.

We hope you enjoy looking through the updated website and why not keep an eye on our kittens page to meet the new arrivals. We look forward to hearing from possible new homes for our kittens and from previous families alike.
